Burdock Arctium lappa

Burdock is a tall member of the thistle family native across Europe and Asia, while naturalized virtually everywhere else.

Burdock is known as a ‘fixative’ plant as it’s long tap-root brings minerals, particularly calcium and potassium, up through the soil and ‘fixes’ them in its fleshy root. It was eaten in medieval Europe as a nutritive vegetable, and it is still eaten as a food in Japan where they call it ‘gobo’. 

Famed as a traditional spring food and in the great northern drink, ‘Dandelion and Burdock’, we use it root in Glow.
